Samy calls for Hindraf 5’s release

Posted by chaanakyan on March 30, 2008

In a dramatic about-turn, MIC president S Samy Vellu today called for the release of the five Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) leaders held without trial under the Internal Security Act (ISA).

The veteran politician said he will meet Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi soon to discuss this matter.

He also urged Hindraf chairperson P Waythamoorthy – who is currently in London on self-exile – to return to the country and be reunited with his family, saying that the latter should not be a political refugee.

Samy Vellu was speaking to reporters after opening the MIC divisional leaders workshop at the party’s headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

The five – four of whom are lawyers – were arrested shortly after organising a mammoth street rally in Kuala Lumpur which drew some 30,000 people on Nov 25 last year.

Approached by detainees’ families

Samy Vellu revealed that the families of Manoharan and R Kengadharan had approached him for assistance.

“Because they made an approach, I will talk to the PM (about securing their freedom),” he said, adding, “We also don’t want them to be kept inside.

“I made some moves on this earlier, but I didn’t tell anybody. I will now make a very strong move to see what can be done,” he added

Manoharan won the Kota Alam Shah state seat in Selangor under a DAP ticket in the March 8 elections.

In the past, Samy Vellu had been critical of Hindraf and the Nov 25 demonstration. The movement, in return, also accused MIC and its party boss of failing to uplift the status of the Indian community.

Not a publicity stunt

Responding to a question, Samy Vellu denied that the move to call for the five’s release was a publicity stunt.

Describing it as being motivated by “fairness”, he said: “At the same time, we feel that as Indians, we have to do something about this.”

Thirty-one detainees were later charged with the attempted murder of a policeman, but this was subsequently dropped.

Samy Vellu said this happened because he spoke to the prime minister and attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail.

“But one of the detainees’ fathers scolded me like hell… (the father said) ‘Who the hell are you?’, ‘Where were you when my son was arrested?’

“He ashamed me, it was very unreasonable. But I didn’t take it to mind, as long as the students were released and the (attempted murder) charge against the others was reduced,” he added.

The MIC president said “many had argued for them because they want publicity.” “We only want the truth,” he said.

Afrter reading this article, I got shocked ! Mr. Sam has that concern for Indians? Impossible! It is very clear, he is playing tricky games. After losing in election, he has only the title of MIC leader. He wants to take care of it. That`s why he is showing his concerns now? Where was he when almost many indians were in danger? Why he keep his mouth shut when body snatching was arising? Where were he on 13th Dec 2007? Why he kept quiet when the PM signed the ISA detention for the H5? All bullshit! Mr. Sam, you are really a great actor.

I’ll second to Dato’ Seri S.Samyvellu’s,MIC President, moves to release the FIVE detainee as the families of FIVE have came forward to MIC for a help.YB Dato Seri S.Samyvellu voicing the MIC members voice throughout the nation. They have clearly made a choice. And it will be very honourable for Malaysian Goverment to phase up the release process of the FIVE.

Political Hipocrites and morons are ever present in our society today.

When everything is rosy and lovey dovey, they say and do nothing but carry out plans for their own gain and position; examples

    1. This chap is now calling for H5 release when he came out on tv to oppose their (H5’s) every action and was very adamant they should be in Kamunting,

    2. This other chap says as long as his papa-in-law is the PM, he will never vie for a position. we all know he has high ambitions and if shit had not hit the fan on 9th March, he would be happily holding on to a fat ministerial post which his papa-in-law will be more than happy to give to him,

    3. We have this chap that is so quiet nowadays, you can hardly hear him whimper unlike in 1987 when he caused many innocent leaders of Chinese and Indian descent to be ISA detained when he almost created racial riots in Malaysia, due to his political ambitions to become the Youth Chief. Ops Lallang was in full swing when he escaped to London to get away from persecution. I hate to think he will inherit the P.Ministership one day.

    4. This bald chap spoke on tv in an interview with a western reporter and he had the audacity to lie thru his teeth that in Malaysian Us, Chinese and Indians make up most of the students (was he also refering to self sponsored students whose family eked out a hard living sending their kids overseas while the indeginous people are sent there for free?)

He also swears that Chinese, Indians and others (other than the indeginous people) owns more land in Malaysia. He also used an example like, a Chinese may own 1 acre of land but this land is worth a few time more than a Malay that owns land that is acres upon acres.

He also lied about building of churches and temples, where everyone can build one whenever they like. He is still a minister in the cabinet.

    5. We have this chap who ‘acts stupid’ calls ‘someone a monkey’ when he acts like one in Parliment, do not know what he’s talking about when he became the de’facto law minister and guess what – he’s still in the cabinet.

    6. We have this guy who likes to brandish his weapon whenever he speaks and threatens to do some of the rakyat in if they talk too much. He is also one who is primed to be someone important in the sucession ladder. Oh! How different he is from his father whom I respected very much for his caring ways. I am sure he will turn in his grave. His grandfather would definitely turn in his grave if he knew of this chap’s heroics.

Frankly, I hate to believe that we will have these guys as our so called co-citizens when in front of the rakyat, they will say all sorts of very nice things to the Malays, Chinese, Indians, and other races ears.

However, we all know that they will put on a different mask when they meet different groups of rakyat.

I hope that Pakatan Rakyat stop all their bickerings and do whats’ best for the rakyat. If you perform, my vote is yrs in the next GE. Already, you are showing yr capabilty which the BN had only taken for granted in the past and they kept sh*tting on the rakyat and they still are.

Tan Sir Khalid, keep up the good work, YB Mohd Nizar- my hats off to you for the ways you handle matters in Perak (I am a Perakian by the way), pls do something to bring economic progress to Perak, the past 2 leaders had been sitting and warming their seats, YB Lim Guan Eng-you are your own man now and show yr capabilities. Break away from the stereotype, that you are still in the Opposition. You rule Penang now. I know you can get Penang going again.
