Malaysian Police powerless against curbing abuse of Indian school children

Kuala Lumpur, Aug 23 (ANI): Following reports of school teachers targeting students of Indian origin in Malaysia and subjecting them to physical and verbal abuse, the countrys police have found themselves powerless in taking action against such teachers, saying the maximum they could do was to report such instances to the Education Department.

District criminal investigations department chief Deputy Superintendent Roslan Ibrahim said no action could be taken against a teacher accused of verbal abuse. When such cases (verbal abuse) are reported, we can only forward it to the Education Department for further action, he said.

On racial slurs, Roslan said it could be categorised as mental abuse. However it would be difficult to charge a teacher suspected of racially abusing a student unless there is strong supporting evidence and witnesses who are willing to testify in court, the New Straits Times quoted him as saying.

It had been reported that five police reports had been lodged against teachers in a school in Taman Klang Jaya for alleged racial abuse. The first report was lodged on Nov 1 last year while the latest was lodged on Aug 8. Two reports were lodged on Feb 29 and the other report was on March 21.

The incidents were first reported in March this year, but no action had been taken either by the police or the Education Department.

The Coalition of Malaysian Indian Non-governmental Organisations Secretary G. Gunaraj said he had met with parents of six students last Sunday in Klang Jaya regarding the issue. Despite the reports, the teachers who allegedly abused the Indian students verbally and physically continue to teach and no apparent action has been taken against them, he said, adding that a petition had been signed by 63 Indian parents voicing their dissatisfaction and frustration over the handling of the issue. Hindu Temples & Crematoriums To Be Phased Out Of Kuala Lumpur ?

More than 120 temple representatives present at a meeting organized by Malaysia Hindu Sangam at the Dewan Tan Sri K R Soma, KL yesterday were shocked that their temples and 2 existing Hindu Crematoriams were not identified at the master Plan of City of Kuala Lumpur by 2020.

What is of great concern to the community leaders is whether there is a plan to erase off hundreds of Hindu Temples and 2 crematoriams at Jalan Loke Yew and Sentul by the year 2020.

There was a feeling of disappointment and disgust when they were briefed on the Master Plan. They were informed that they have to send their note of protest using the appropriate DBKL Form by 30th August 2008. About 100 forms were distributed at the meeting.

Briefings were made by MHS President Datuk A.Vaithilingam, IT Consultant Mr. Chin Meng Sun, MHS Temples Advisor Ir Ariathavaratnam, MHS Temples Affairs Committee Chairman Mr. G.gunaraj and Bukit Jalil Social worker Mr. Thiagarajan. All those who are not able to obtain the DBKL Master Plan Books are requested to go online and visit www.klcityplan2020.dbkl.gov.my and try and identify the location of their temple. It does not matter whether the temple is registered with ROS or with our MHS or is said to be illegal and of the temple is not identified in the plan please get the forms from DBKL or ring 012-392 5995 (Mr. Gunaraj), 012-328 7823 (Mr.Chin), 016-3674304 (Mr. Thiagaraj) or 016-277 1495 (Ir. Ariathavaratnam) for advice or on how to obtain the forms.

10-year-old boy alleges 10 hours of torture by cops

A 10-year-old school has alleged that Kampar police tortured him for about 10 hours last Wednesday after he was accused of committing theft by his teacher.

N. Logeswaran’s father Nagarajan, 51, lodged a police report last Friday on behalf of his son who accused the police of subjecting him to physical torture and trauma.

Nagarajan said his son was handcuffed to his back and police choked him, hung him upside down during interrogation.

Logeswaran was also threatened and terrorised with a parang and a gun held by policemen if he did not admit stealing the teacher’s belongings. His legs were also bound and had his head banged against the wall, resulting in large swell on the back of his head.

He also alleged police attempted to burn his private parts with a lighted plastic covering but his son managed to wriggle away and the burning plastic drippings burned his right foot.

Logeswaran was released after his mother P. Santhi posted a RM500 police bail and will face a charge in the Kampar magistrate ’s court at 8.30am on Sept 9.

Logeswaran’s ordeal started when his school teacher N.Kristina,of SRK Kampar went to his house last Tuesday and complained to Santhi that her son had stolen RM700, her identity card, driving licence and other documents from her.

Kristina then checked Logeswaran’s pockets and his school bag but did not find her belongings.

The following day, at about 12.30pm, Logeswaran was picked up by police in his school and taken to the Kampar police station for interrogation.

Santhi rushed to the police station but she was not allowed to see her son as the interrogation was in progress.

She heard her son crying out in pain and after 10 hours of interrogation, Logeswaran was released at 10.30pm.

Logeswaran complained of severe pain on the back of his head which was swollen and he started to vomitting.

The next day, Nagarajan then took his son to the Kampar Hospital where the doctor told Nagarajan to get a police request for a medical examination Form 59, as this was a police case and only then will the hospital conduct the medical examination of his son.

However, the doctor told Nagarajan that his son had suffered head injuries and had to see a specialist in Ipoh Hospital for further evaluation of his head injuries.

Logeswaran was warded in Ipoh Hospital for two days and then discharged.

Today, Logeswaran and his parents together with Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) central committee member Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj and other PSM members were in the state police headquarters to hand over a memorandum to CPO DCP Datuk Zulkifli Abdullah, urging him to take action against the Kampar police personnel who allegedly tortured Logeswaran.

Logeswaran’s lawyer G. Balasunderam, 50, said the Penal Code under Section 82 states: “Nothing is an offence which is done by a child under 10 years of age.” Logeswaran is only nine years and 10 months old.

Balasunderam said under the Child Act 2001, a child suspect should be under the supervision of a welfare officer when interrogated by police.

He is giving the police 14 days to respond to the memorandum and punish the culprits, failing which legal action will be instituted against Kampar police and SRK Kampar.

Najib wants Indians to back BN !! Sodomy never ends!!

Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak made a plea to the Chinese and Indian communities in Permatang Pauh – come back to the Barisan Nasional’s fold.

He admitted that voters from these two communities had deserted BN in the March 8 general election, blaming that on the communities being unduly influenced by the opposition.

It was time to support BN again, he said. But, that is his view, its up to voters to decide.

Permatang Pauh, a semi-urban constituency in Penang, has 58,459 voters, consisting some 69 percent Malays, 25 percent Chinese and 6 per cent Indians.

He promised that the BN would champion the Indian and Chinese communities’ cause in the constituency as they had been neglected by the opposition. But what is not known is that ,if BN is going to champion the Indian & Chinese cause as they did for last 50 years.

It was reported in malaysiakini that specifically for the Indian voters in Permatang Pauh – numbering some 3,500 voters – Najib said the government has agreed to approve scrap metal collector’s licence for them.

But these people are wondering how the Permatang pauh will look like with 3500 scrap metal collectors.What is Still not clear to many is that,did he mean scarp collector/tin collector?  May be its a new job opportunity for Indians to take over the job of present drug addicts. There is no better way of insulting the of Indian community in Permatang Paugh.

He also announced aid for three Tamil primary schools and six Chinese primary schools. It also looks like that Najib and BN only realized 2 days before that these has to be done for the communities..

Nobody has forgot his hatred for Chinese community and Indians dont expect any difference in approach of Najib and BN towards Indians.

Still, no actions or answers are there on the fate of The political ISA detainees which include the HINDRAF 5.

People of Permatang paugh is now waiting for the Offers from Samy Velu (MIC) and Gang. May be some hand outs and threats using his gang.

Defenitly, they are offering a MP who can speak chinese to the chinese community. What a geat sacrifice from BN. BN is expecting their MP to sit and chat day in & out with old chinese people staying at home . Other than that, there is no benifit for the chinese by having a chinese speaking MP specifically.

Overall, BN is insulting the intelligence of the Malaysians of chinese and indian entinicity in Permatang Pauh.

Lets wait and see, how these people respond.

Racial taunts spark protests by Indians in Malaysia

KULA LUMPUR: About 500 angry ethic-Indians on Monday staged a protest outside a school demanding action against a teacher who allegedly hurled racial slurs against students from the community in western Malaysia’s Selangaon state.

According to the police report, a woman history teacher had allegedly called Indian students in a Class four and five ‘Negro’, ‘black monkeys’ and other derogatory names.

The crowd began gathering outside the Banting school’s main entrance near here at noon and staged a protest for two hours.

The teacher had also allegedly said that the community members were stupid and prone to thievery, the Star daily reported on its website.

The alleged incidents took place on July 17 and 22 when the teacher had allegedly beaten up some Indians students.

A students also alleged in his report that the teacher had written the word ‘keling pariah’ on the board and lost her cool when the Indian students told her that they did not like being called names, it said.

Coalition of Malaysian Indian NGOs secretary Gunaraj George, who was among the protesters, said such abuse would only breed hatred and racial polarisation in schools.

“No one in his or her right frame of mind would have said these things. Given this, the best option would be for the teacher to be assigned to a desk job and not be allowed to be near youngsters anymore,” he said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Education Minister Wee Ka Siong said the schoolteacher might be sacked if the allegations proved true. “The allegations were serious as no one was allowed to insult others, especially in a school environment,” said Wee, who was asked to comment.

The ministry was awaiting an official report before taking any action, he added.
